Australia win toss and bat at The Oval

Michael Neser will make his debut for Australia in the ODI series opener against England, with the tourists to bat first after Tim Paine won the toss.

Australia have won the toss and elected to bat in the ODI series opener against England at The Oval.

Skipper Tim Paine, in his first match as permanent captain, called correctly on a sunny day in south London with Queensland's Michael Neser to make his debut.

The South African-born all-rounder was presented with his cap by former Test wicketkeeper Brad Haddin.

D'Arcy Short's lack of runs in the warm-up matches has cost him the chance to make his debut with Aaron Finch and Travis Head to open the batting.

Shaun Marsh will bat at three with Marcus Stoinis coming in at four following his classy century against Sussex.

England made one change to the side that lost to Scotland on Sunday with Jos Buttler restored to the side in place of Sam Billings.

England: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (capt), Jos Buttler (wkt), Moeen Ali, David Willey, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.

Australia: Travis Head, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Tim Paine (capt, wkt), Ashton Agar, Michael Neser, Andrew Tye, Kane Richardson, Billy Stanlake.
