Australian doctor treats wounded Syrian children

Three years of conflict have turned Syria into one of the most dangerous places on earth to be a child.

Among those trying to make a difference is an Australian doctor based in Israel who's working to save the lives of seriously wounded Syrian children.

Michael Harari has spent decades working in emergency care, but nothing prepared him for the trauma he has seen over the past three years.

He's based at the Ziv Medical Centre at Zefat near the Syrian border.

Every week, seriously wounded Syrians, including children, are brought quietly across the border to be treated at the medical centre.

He says the trickle of Syrians that first crossed into Israel at the beginning of 2013 has since become a torrent.
