Australian man missing in Brazil

An Australian man is missing in Brazil, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed.

An Australian man is missing in Brazil, with his family launching a social media campaign in a bid to locate the 25-year-old.

Rye Hunt had been working in Western Australia when he left the state indefinitely on April 7 for what he described on Facebook as "an adventure to see the world".

"Unsure of what the future has in store for us, stay safe everybody, hope to see you all upon our return," Mr Hunt said in his post.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed authorities were working closely with Brazilian officials to locate him and were providing consular assistance to his family.

According to an online missing persons post, Mr Hunt was last seen at Rio de Janeiro International Airport on the afternoon of May 21.

It is understood Mr Hunt was meant to be travelling with a friend to Bolivia on the day he went missing.

A relative of the missing man posted to an online forum saying Mr Hunt agreed with the friend to meet at the airport but did not arrive and had been missing since.

Mr Hunt had been living in Kalgoorlie and Perth before embarking on his travels.
