Determined Queensland golfer Anthony Quayle holds a one-stroke lead entering the final round of the New Zealand PGA Championship.
First-year professional Quayle snuck to the top of a tightly-placed leaderboard, defying strong winds at Manawatu Golf Club.
"It was a grind. It was so hard, the wind was at some stages up to like a three-putt wind maybe even a four-putt wind," Quayle said.
"The way I stayed patient out there to still hang in and shoot a good round was positive."
A third round of two-under 69 lifted Quayle to 12-under, a stroke clear of three golfers - Australian Ben Clementson and Kiwis Shaun Jones and Ben Campbell.
"I like playing in the wind so it kind of suits me around here; I'm pretty happy where I am at the moment," NSW's Clementson said.
Clementson matched Quayle with a 69, overnight leader Jones followed his course record-equalling 63 on Friday with a 72 while Campbell's 65 was the round of the day.
Four golfers are at 10-under including Australians Matthew Giles and Jarryd Felton and Josh Younger.
Defending champion, Queensland's Brad Kennedy is among a group of five at nine-under.
The New Zealand PGA Championship is part of the Tour of Australasia.
