Australians expected to flock to London

London is expecting more and more Australian tourists, with numbers predicted to increase by a third in the next eight years.

London is readying itself for an influx of Australian tourists with visits to the capital expected to surge in coming years.

A report released by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan predicts the number of visitors from Australia to increase by 39 per cent in the next eight years, more than the 30 per cent increase in tourist numbers expected overall.

By 2025 more than 40 million people are expected to visit London annually, up on the 31.2 million visitors the city boasted in 2016.

London's tourism sector contributes 11.6 per cent of the city's economy and employs 700,000 people or one in seven of its workers.

While expected Australian visitors outstrip the overall growth forecast, the predicted number of Chinese tourists is expected to increase 103 per cent, those from India are forecast to rise 90 per cent and American tourists are to rise 43 per cent.
