Two Australians who have joined militant groups to fight in the war in Ukraine could face prosecution if they are found to have broken the law, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has warned.
Unlike Australians who break foreign fighter laws by joining Islamic State or the Kurds who oppose them, there are no rules explicitly banning people fighting for Ukraine.
"The law is specific in relation to prescribed areas, in relation to activity otherwise, and if people have been in breach of the Australian law then they may well face prosecution," Mr Dutton told reporters in Canberra on Tuesday.
