Brendan Jones and Terry Pilkadaris are the leading Australian golfers after the first round of the Panasonic Open in Japan.

Australian duo Brendan Jones and Terry Pilkadaris are five shots off the pace set by American Jason Knutzon after the first round of the Panasonic Open golf tournament in Japan.

Knutzon fired a seven-under 64 at the Chiba Country Club to take a two-stroke lead from Japan's Satoshi Kodaira and Thailand's Udorn Duangdecha.

Four players are tied fourth at four under while eight golfers are at three-under.

Jones and Pilkadaris carded two-under rounds of 69 on Thursday to be among a bunch of players to be tied 16th.

The other Australians in the field are Won Joon Lee (even), Kurt Barnes and Todd Sinnott (one over), Adam Bland and Todd Kennedy (three over) and Richard Green (five over).

The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour.
