Australians would back tax crackdown: poll

The ACTU has released research showing 85 per cent of Australians believe the federal government should close tax loopholes for big companies.

There is broad support for federal government action to make big companies pay their fair share of tax.

An Essential Research poll of 1000 people, released by the ACTU on Wednesday, show just nine per cent believe the system is working now, while 85 per cent think the government should close tax loopholes.

Nine in 10 support a national corruption watchdog with the power to investigate cases of corporate tax avoidance.
