The first Australian Dakar Rally champion has arrived back on home soil with a bit of extra luggage.
Toby Price was carrying a seven kilogram trophy when he landed at Sydney Airport on Wednesday, where he was greeted by a cheering crowd, including one young fan, who was brought to tears upon seeing his idol.
Price is back from South America after competing in the rally, one of the world’s most dangerous races.
The 28-year-old took out the title only three years after breaking his neck, and on just his second attempt in the competition.
"I thought it would have been a bit of a longer road, but we've worked really hard, and to now have this hard work pay off and to actually grab hold of this trophy and have it back it in Australia, it's a good place to have it," Price said.

His parents were full of emotion to see their son.
Price’s father, John Price, said it was difficult watching the gruelling competition from afar, but was glad his son home safe.
“It is a very hard race, and there’s a lot of injuries and unfortunately fatalities, but that’s his chosen career, and we support him all the way,” he said.
Price said he was determined to go one better next year, and defend his title.
