Away leg will test Brumbies: Carter

After a fine start to the Super Rugby season the Brumbies will have their title credentials tested early when they embark on a tough South African leg.

Three weeks on the road will be a huge test for the Brumbies but could put them on the path towards a drought-breaking Super Rugby title, according to Sam Carter.

The Canberra-based outfit this week travel to Perth to face the Western Force on Friday, ahead of clashes with the Stormers in Cape Town and the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

It follows their stellar start to the 2016 season, with a bonus-point win over last year's finalists the Hurricanes and a hard-fought derby victory over the NSW Waratahs on Friday.

It puts them clear on top of the Australian conference after two weeks.

"We've obviously got off to a good start but now we've got three games on the road," star lock Carter said on Monday.

"It's important to get these wins away because if we come back and we've got a good result in Perth and then South Africa, then we'll be shaping well for the season.

"So our goal is to win, to win away, and to win well."

The Wallaby said the trip to Perth was always tough, having had mixed results in the past.

But he prefers travelling early in the season while the team still felt fresh.

The Brumbies' South Africa tour wasn't until round 13/14 last year, when they lost to the Stormers but beat the Lions in Johannesburg.

They returned to topple the Stormers weeks late in the first week of the finals.

"Going away now it is better, but obviously we still have to get the results and play well," Carter said.

Fellow lock Blake Enever won't join his teammates on the road after suffering AC joint damage to his shoulder in the game against the Waratahs.

The news was better than expected with scans revealing he won't need surgery, but will still miss at least four of action.

"It's a shame for him, especially because he was very good towards the end of last year and he trained well over the off-season," added Carter.

"He got his opportunity last week and unfortunately he got injured.

"But I guess these things happen."

Rory Arnold is his likely replacement, having started in the Brumbies' season-opener against the 'Canes.
