Axed Test allrounder Mitch Marsh begins his quest to regain his international spot when Western Australia face Victoria in the Sheffield Shield this weekend.

Instead of facing India at the Adelaide Oval, Marsh will be captaining the Warriors against the table-topping Bushrangers at the MCG from Friday.

The third-placed Warriors have made three changes to their squad for the trip to Melbourne with Josh Philippe, D'Arcy Short and Jonathon Wells coming into a 14-man group.

Marsh's older brother Shaun is unavailable due to his Australian commitments.

The Bushrangers have also been forced into changes with captain Peter Handscomb and top-order batsman Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris in the Test team.

Opener Travis Dean will lead the Bushrangers in Handscomb's absence and said a wounded Marsh would be a dangerous prospect.

"He's a class player so you always worry about him no matter what the situation is," Dean told AAP.

"They've got a line up stacked with talent so you've got to be wary of all of them, especially Mitch coming back from the Test squad."

Young gun Will Pucovski is set to make his return to cricket after time out with a mental health issue.

The 20-year-old scored a mammoth 243 in Victoria's big win over the Warriors in Perth in October and Dean said it was uplifting to welcome Pucovski back into the group.

"He's been through a bit lately, obviously he's back and he's feeling a bit better, there's no pressure on him really," Dean said.

"He's a great player and he'll do what he has to do. He's got a great technique and a great temperament so everyone's backing him in this week."

Cameron White also returns for the home team, while ex-NSW batsman Nic Maddinson is in line for his first Sheffield Shield appearance for his new state.

Tasmania, without Test captain Tim Paine, has named two potential debutants for their home clash against Queensland starting on Friday.

Charlie Wakim and Sean Willis are both in line to play their first First Class match after impressing in the Futures League.

The Bulls have re-called experienced pace bowler Peter George for the clash at Blundstone Arena as fifth-placed Queensland try to leapfrog fourth-placed Tasmania.

Broadcast commitments have forced NSW seamer Trent Copeland to miss the Blues' clash with bottom-placed South Australia at the SCG.

Leg-spinner Daniel Fallins has been added to the home team's squad in place of Test star Nathan Lyon while Copeland is working for Channel Seven at the Adelaide Oval.

The winless Redbacks have included top-order batsman Kelvin Smith in a 12-man squad to take on the Blues, in place of Test batsman Travis Head.

It's the final round of matches before the competition takes a back seat to the Big Bash League.
