Babbel puts the heat on wandering Janjetovic

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Markus Babbel has warned struggling goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic to shape up, or face being dropped.

Janjetovic is set be given one more chance prove his billing as first-choice between the sticks despite his horror error in last week's draw with Brisbane Roar.

It is not the first time this season the veteran gloveman has committed a costly mistake, having been red-carded in last month's derby against Sydney FC.

Former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Bosnich earlier this week said it was time Janjetovic was given a lengthy spell on the sidelines and for the club to give it's back-up options some playing time.

However, after talking with Janjetovic this week, Babbel is likely to stick with the 31-year-old for Friday's clash against Newcastle Jets.

"I said to him, 'You can fall down but what I expect now is that you stand up'," Babbel said on Wednesday.

"He knows it wasn't the best decision but, even then, it wasn't a goal.

"We have the chance to clear the ball but someone else did a mistake as well.

"It cost us two points but it's a learning process.

"That's what I said, to learn to handle pressure.

"The pressure is on now, so it's also good to see from me how can you handle this pressure."

Babbel suggested Janjetovic's standards may have dropped after he signed a four-year extension last April - the longest offered by the club.

The German coach said the onus is now on the former Sky Blues goalkeeper to prove his worth or risk losing his spot.

Youngster Nick Suman has already been used four times this season.

"Maybe he was too sure because he signed a longer contract, feel comfortable, maybe the pressure from the other goalkeepers wasn't there," Babbel said.

"(Maybe) he was in a comfort zone, so now it's time to get out of this comfort zone.

"He saw there is a young fella there, he's doing well, he's a big talent.

"And we are not afraid to make changes.

"But this is only up to him because he is a good goalkeeper. He is our No.1, so now it's up to him to show us for the future."
