Baby's death takes holiday road toll to 27

The death of a baby whose pram was hit by a car in Queensland has pushed the national holiday road toll to 27.

The national road toll has climbed to 27 following the death of a baby boy whose pram was hit by a reversing vehicle in Queensland.

The pram with the seven-month-old boy inside was hit by a reversing vehicle on St Paul's Drive at Woodridge at 1.50pm on Friday.

The little boy was rushed to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in a serious condition but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Queensland Police say the boy's mother, who was driving, was attending a funeral at nearby St Paul's Parish.

"She is distraught and is being cared for by her husband and close family," Senior Sergeant Tony Jackson told reporters at the scene.

The boy's death is the fourth on Queensland roads over the holiday period.

Victoria's holiday road toll increased to nine on Friday after two motorcyclists were killed in the upper Goulburn Valley.

The two riders were among four motorcyclists who were struck by a car in Kevington just before 5pm.

South Australia's holiday road toll has increased to four after a driver was killed in a single car crash on the Eyre Highway.

NSW has recorded seven deaths since the toll period began on December 23.

NSW Police are preparing to hit the roads in force for New Year's Eve, with more than 1000 officers and 500 highway patrol cars on duty across the weekend.

The Northern Territory, Tasmania and the ACT have not recorded any road deaths.

Western Australia has recorded three deaths.
