Backpacker murder accused to face court

A 33-year-old Queensland man has been charged with murder a day after a German tourist was stabbed to death in Brisbane during an apparent road rage incident.

A man charged with fatally stabbing a German tourist on a Brisbane road and then fleeing the scene in his car is set to face court.

The 33-year-old Lockrose man was arrested on Saturday morning some 24 hours after the apparent road rage incident on Milton Road.

Queensland Police say the German backpacker and a male friend were trying to cross the road about 4am on Friday when they became involved in a "verbal altercation" with the man and woman who were in a small car.

It's alleged the 33-year-old then got out of the car and stabbed the backpacker, 30, in the abdomen and back.

The victim - who'd been in Queensland "for some time" - died four hours later in hospital.

Detectives say the two pedestrians were staying at a nearby hostel and were likely returning when the attack happened.

The Lockrose man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
