Bahrain deports 'radical' US teacher

A US teacher has been deported from Bahrain because of her "radical" writings, officials say.

Bahraini authorities say they have deported a US citizen teaching in the gulf kingdom because of her "radical" writings on Twitter and websites.

A statement on Saturday from the Ministry of State for Communications said the teacher published articles about Bahrain that "were deemed to incite hatred against the government and members of the royal family".

The ministry said the woman, whom it did not identify, also violated the terms of her work permit by working illegally as an unaccredited journalist.

The ministry said she also wrote for the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights.

Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th fleet, has faced 18 months of unrest between the Sunni-led monarchy and its majority Shi'ite population.

The government has started a crackdown on dissent.
