A Queensland father charged over the death of his nine-year-old son in a jet ski crash is expected to apply for bail on Thursday.

Shane Parkes was remanded in custody after he appeared in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court in January charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, drug driving and operating a ship while unlicensed and not registered.

Parkes was allegedly riding the watercraft with his six-year-old son on November 19 when it crashed into his older son on the water's edge.

The young boy's body was found by police divers in Lake Moondarra, in outback Queensland, the following morning.
