Bail for alleged Brisbane sex predator

A Brisbane man accused of sexually assaulting drunk young men after offering to drive them home will be released on bail.

A Brisbane man has been accused of preying on drunk young men, offering them lifts home but taking them to secluded sites where they were sexually assaulted.

The 48-year-old faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday over two sex attacks that are part of a wider investigation into a string of similar crimes dating back 10 years.

The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, has been charged with rape and sexual assault over separate attacks on two 22-year-old men - one just a month ago, the other in 2007.

Police say one young victim was drunk and walking home from Fortitude Valley on July 2 this year when a man in a car offered to drive him home.

It was 4am and the young man accepted the offer but he was taken to a street in Brisbane's north where he was sexually assaulted.

The victim managed to get away and sought help at a nearby service station.

Police allege the 48-year-old was also responsible for a similar attack on May 17, 2007.

In that case, a 22-year-old who'd been drinking was waiting for a bus home late at night when a man approached, offering him a lift.

The young man was driven to a car park in Brisbane's south where he was sexually assaulted. He too managed to get away and raise the alarm.

The accused was allowed bail, subject to conditions including regular reporting to his local police station, during his brief court appearance.

He will next face court on Monday.

Detectives are continuing to investigate several other similar incidents in the Brisbane area, stretching back 10 years.

They have urged anyone who may have been a victim of a similar assault to come forward.
