Bailey lays down the law for Tigers

Tasmania sit dead last on the Sheffield Shield table after slumping to a nine-wicket loss to Western Australia at the WACA Ground this week.

Tasmanian captain George Bailey says his players need to start working their backsides off if they are to consistently match it with rival teams.

The Tigers will enter the Christmas break dead last on the Sheffield Shield table after tallying just one win from five matches.

This week's nine-wicket loss to a youthful Western Australia outfit showcased just how far the Tigers need to improve if they are to become title contenders any time soon.

A series of dropped catches throughout the match hurt Tasmania's cause, while Bailey said their team totals of 261 and 205 simply weren't good enough.

"What we're looking for is a response," Bailey said.

"We understand some of the guys are younger and they need a bit of time (to develop), and patience will be needed there.

"But in terms of work ethic and character and resilience - I guess we're not being as patient with that.

"We want to see guys stepping up and working their butts off to get that."

Bailey conceded his team's batting, bowling, and fielding haven't been up to scratch this season.

"For us, it's been a case of being outclassed in all three facets all season," Bailey said.

"We had a good win a couple of weeks ago against NSW, and I certainly got a bit excited.

"I thought we might have turned the corner.

"But there's still a bloody lot of hard work ahead of us, in terms of how each and every one of us needs to get better."
