The large black and white work by Indian-born Sydney artist Nafisa was selected according to tradition by back room staff at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Nafisa says she tried to capture Baker's strengths and his larrikin sense of humour, describing her work as a celebration of humanity.

And she said the size of the painting reflected the writer's larger-than-life personality.
Baker said he was enormously humbled and chuffed to join a list of winning packing room subjects, including musicians Neil Finn and Jimmy Barnes.
Renowned for his encyclopaedic knowledge of rock music, Baker, 57, has written 16 books and hundreds of articles on the subject.
"We share a mutual love for travel and adventure, and I was intrigued by his boundless energy, enthusiasm and knowledge about all things to do with rock music," said Nafisa.
The artist wins $1000 in prizes, and her painting will feature in the annual Archibald Prize exhibition.
The Archibald Prize finalists have been culled from 849 entries.
The 2010 winner will be announced in Sydney next week.
