Bali police investigating Qld man's death

Bali police say they are still hoping to speak with the friends of a Queensland man believed to have drowned after drinking at a local villa.

Bali police are continuing to investigate the death of an Australian man believed to have drowned in a pool while drinking with friends.

Tyler Kennedy, 31, from Queensland died on Wednesday night after meeting friends at a Canggu villa in North Kuta, Bali to have drinks.

"When the victim's friends were chatting and drinking, the victim jumped into the pool. After about 10 minutes, the victim was seen floating unconscious in the pool," local police said in a statement.

Friends gave him CPR and called for help but by the time the ambulance arrived, Mr Kennedy was dead.

His body was taken to nearby Sanglah Hospital.

Head detective with North Kuta Police, Putu Ika Prabawa, said on Sunday they wanted to question Mr Kennedy's friends in relation to the matter but were unsure whether they had returned to Australia.

"We don't know whether they have gone back to Australia or not," he told AAP.

"One thing for sure, we have given them summon letter for questioning."

Police are also still waiting for approval from Mr Kennedy's family to perform an autopsy.

They said they were not informed of Mr Kennedy's death until Friday - two days after he is believed to have drowned.

Friends on social media paid tribute to the former Caloundra State High School student and keen surfer, with Darryl Cook describing him as "one of the greatest guys I have met in my life".

"He worked for me, drank with me, laughed with me, and cried with me ... Love you mate," he wrote on Friday.

Another said there was "another angel/God in Bali" in the wake of his untimely passing.

A statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said: "The department is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Bali. For privacy reasons we are unable to provide further details".
