David Page, the music director of the Bangarra Dance Company, has died.

"The Bangarra clan is unbelievably saddened that our brother David Page is no longer with us," the company wrote on its Facebook page.

"On behalf of Stephen, the Page family and Bangarra, we ask for your privacy and respect at this difficult time."

David Page was a descendant of the Nunkul people and the Munaldjali clan of the Yugambeh tribe from southeastern Queensland.

He composed the music of Bangarra's major works and in 2000, contributed music to the opening ceremonies of the Sydney Olympic Games.

He also has numerous television credits, including music for Heartland, which earned him an ARIA nomination.
