Bangladesh bowler Hossain sent to prison

Charges of torturing an 11-year-old housemaid have landed Bangladesh fast bowler Shahadat Hossain in jail after his petition for bail was rejected.

Bangladesh fast bowler Shahadat Hossain has been sent to prison on charges of torturing an 11-year-old housemaid.

Hossain saw his petition for bail rejected by the court on Monday a day after his wife was arrested.

The 29-year-old Hossain and his wife had been absconding since a case was registered against them last month under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended him from all forms of cricket until the charges are cleared.

Hossain, who has played 38 tests and 51 one-day internationals for Bangladesh, last played a test against Pakistan this year but was then dropped because of injuries.
