Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce wrote off his $80,000 dollar four wheel drive after trying to drive it through floodwaters just before Christmas, Fairfax reports.

Joyce said there was no flood indicator present, and the road was still open, so he attempted to drive through a swollen creek. But, Fairfax reports Joyce as saying, the vehicle stalled.

When it was winched from the creek with the assistance of a farmer, the vehicle was in such a bad state that the insurer wrote off the Toyota Landcruiser, which was paid for by taxpayers.
