Local hopes Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua have crashed out of the Australian Open women's doubles in the quarter-finals.

The wildcard women got off to a flying start before falling to French top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic 1-6 6-2 6-1.

The Australians, who have only recently resumed playing together, were hoping to emulate their 2013 success when they reached the finals at Melbourne Park, Wimbledon and US Open.
