Barty taught me a lesson: Vondrousova

Czech ace Marketa Vondrousova has no excuses for losing to Australian Ashleigh Barty, admitting she was taught a tennis lesson by the new French Open champion.

Marketa Vondrousova has paid tribute to Ashleigh Barty, admitting the Australian taught her a tennis lesson in the French Open final.

The unseeded 19-year-old Czech was on Saturday attempting to become the first teenager to win at Roland Garros in 22 years.

She went in to the final as the first player since Lucie Safarova in 2015 to not drop a set throughout the tournament.

However, she ran in to a Barty steam train on Court Philippe Chatrier, losing the opening set 6-1 inside half-an-hour and the second 6-3 in her maiden grand slam decider.

"She was just too good today," Vondrousova said.

"I think she plays amazing match. I didn't have too many chances today. She just gave me a lesson today."

Barty's greater experience and ability to deal with the gusty conditions in Paris were also a factor, but Vondrousova had no excuses and vowed to learn from the newly-crowned queen of clay.

"It was also windy, so it was a bit different today," she said.

"But she didn't let me play my game today. I think she was just better at everything.

"I didn't really play nervous, but I think she was just too good for me."
