It can only be accessed by plane but King Island could become the new must-visit destination for golfers after its new course, Cape Wickham, went straight to No.3 in Australia's Top 100 rankings.
The par-72 course, situated on the rocks and beaches of Tasmania's northern island, only opened last October but has already proved a winner according to the Australian Golf Digest list.
Royal Melbourne (West) again retained its spot at the top of the list, with Kingston Heath in Victoria staying second.
The Australian Golf Club in Sydney is up three spots to 12th, while Ellerston, located on the Packers' family property in Sydney has dropped three ranking positions to sixth.
However, it's the newly opened Tasmanian course that will have all golfers interested.
Already ranked 24th in the world by the international version of the magazine, it is the highest position achieved on the Australian list for a new course in 29 years.
"If I could only play one course in Australia for the rest of my life, it would be Cape Wickham," judge Nick Tuddenham said.
Each of the 18 holes include views of Bass Strait, with eight running parallel to the water and two others having greens on the coastline.
Before last year the island attracted less than 8,000 visitors, however that's now likely to grow with the new Ocean Dunes course also opening in full in April.
The news is a further boost for Tasmanian golf, with relatively new courses Barnbougle Dunes and Barnbougle Lost Farm also ranking fifth and ninth respectively.
