Beams' AFL season over after surgery

Brisbane Lions coach Justin Leppitsch says Dayne Beams' AFL season is all but over following successful knee surgery.

Dayne Beams appears to have played his last AFL game of the season after the Brisbane Lions midfielder underwent successful knee surgery on Thursday night.

After battling knee tendonitis since the pre-season, it's now likely Beams - who has played just 18 games for the Lions since switching from Collingwood - will be given the rest of the year to get himself right for 2017.

"Time will tell with his rehab and what that means," coach Justin Leppitsch said on Friday.

"The work that was done leads us to believe if he does come back, there's one to two games left in the season.

"It's rather pointless, isn't it, to bring him back for that. It will be a step-by-step process from here on in."
