Bill Shorten has had a lot said about him in the past six-and-a-half weeks of election campaigning.

But being called "beautifully spoken" is probably a first.

That's the view of Nat Ibrihim, mother of four-year old Elizabeth, who also believes the Labor leader has some "great policies".

Elizabeth has had leukaemia for most of her short life and is being treated in the Monash Medical Centre in Mr Shorten's home state of Victoria.

The opposition leader toured the hospital on Tuesday, where he continues to campaign hard on the issue of Medicare and how only Labor can save it even though Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has repeatedly said he has no intention of privatising the system.

Evgenija - "12 going on 13" - in the ward for an inflamed hip, grabbed a selfie with Mr Shorten, saying she is a fan.

Mr Shorten had a long chat with eight-year-old Teagan - who had just been diagnosed with type-1 diabetes - about the toy bear she was hugging and what she might call him.

"Bill," offered one obliging journalist in the pursuing media pack.

Teagan's dad Matt said the hospital was all to familiar to him with his daughter's twin brother Cody having been admitted to the hospital last year with a stroke.

Nola Ellis says her wheelchair bound son Samuel has a myriad of issues, including cystic-fibrosis and epilepsy.

The 16-year-old has been in and out of hospital all his life.

It was nice to meet Mr Shorten, and Samuel was "very excited" about the whole event, Ms Ellis said.
