Soccer star David Beckham has played an exhibition soccer match in Papua New Guinea as part of his role as an ambassador for the United National Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Beckham played the match in front of villagers in Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands Province on Wednesday.
PNG's sports minister Justin Tkatchenko told the ABC the country was the first Beckham had visited on a tour that would see him play charity soccer matches in seven countries to promote awareness and raise funds for UNICEF's work for children.

"A lot of them don't know who this guy is and how famous he is," he said.
"But those who have access to social media and that play soccer and have the love for the sport are just over the moon."
