After sleeping four nights in Victoria's rugged alpine wilderness, a Melbourne couple have got their wish of a shower.

Trevor Salvado, 60, and Jacinta 'Cindy' Bohan, 58, were found safe and well on Tuesday morning at Mount Buffalo in Victoria's northeast, after getting lost on Friday.

The pair took a wrong track and became stuck on a steep ledge living off muesli bars and a trickle of water before working out how to get free on Tuesday and soon finding help.

They just "walked out from where we were" and soon came across a mini-bus of TAFE students who were on a canoeing trip.

After being looked over at Wangaratta Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, the couple told reporters they always knew they would be found and were looking forward to a shower.

Their disappearance sparked a full-scale search, involving up to 150 personnel covering several kilometres of rugged terrain.

Ms Bohan said the experience won't deter the couple from future outdoor adventures.
