A high-visibility police presence is expected at Sunday's NRL grand final following the shooting of a police employee outside the force's Sydney headquarters.
"There will be a very high police presence regardless (but) you may well expect to see higher visibility," NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said on Saturday.
Mr Scipione made the comments after Curtis Cheng, 58, was gunned down from behind by Farhad Khalil Mohammad Jabar while leaving work at the Parramatta police building on Friday afternoon in an attack authorities describe as linked to terrorism.
The incident will be taken into consideration with regards to security at the clash between six-time premiers Brisbane Broncos and the North Queensland Cowboys, Mr Scipione said.
Premier Mike Baird said it is important that people go on with their lives.
"This is an incredibly important weekend, both here and in Melbourne, in terms of grand finals," Mr Baird said.
"They should go on and they will go on."
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a hot and sunny day, with a maximum of 35C.
