Bellamy backs Bennett's handling of Hunt

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy says Wayne Bennett's decision to axe Ben Hunt has worked, with the playmaker back to his best.

Craig Bellamy has butted heads many times with fellow coach Wayne Bennett but is patting him on the back for getting the best out of Brisbane Broncos playmaker Ben Hunt.

Bennett dumped Hunt from their NRL side just over two weeks ago, relegating him to the Ipswich Jets, and challenged the halfback to fight his way back.

The 27-year-old answered that call, producing his best game of the NRL season in his recall against Canberra last round and is now set to wear the No.7 jumper against Bellamy's Melbourne Storm at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Hunt came off the bench late in the first half against the Raiders and had a hand, along with Benji Marshall, in four of Brisbane's five tries to lock down a 30-20 win in Canberra.

"He was good last Saturday night," Bellamy said of Hunt, who has signed with St George Illawarra next season.

"Wayne made a decision that he thought would do Ben good and obviously Wayne's made the right decision there.

"To come out and play like he did on Saturday night after two weeks' before playing in the Queensland Cup, that's a pretty good effort.

"We all know how talented he is and Wayne's pulled a master-stroke there how he's handled it."

Bellamy said his team had been doing their homework on the Broncos and believed they were ready for their rejuvenated attack.

"They've changed their game a little bit from the last time we played them," Bellamy said.

"We're aware of that, we just had a meeting, and there's a couple of things they've got a different mentality on and are doing a bit differently so we'll need to be aware of that and make sure we defend that well."
