Craig Bellamy's son Aaron has been appointed to Melbourne Storm's coaching ranks ahead of the 2016 NRL season.

The Storm announced on Thursday Aaron would join the Storm's staff under his father as a development coach.

The 29-year-old Aaron's role will involve working with the Storm's NRL squad, specifically those players making the step up from the National Youth Competition.

He will also work with the Storm's feeder clubs Brisbane Easts and Sunshine Coast Falcons.

Aaron has been working with his premiership-winning father, head coach at the club since 2003, as a video analyst since 2012.

The appointment of Aaron is the latest in a number of moves his father has made to rejig his staff in the wake of their preliminary final loss to North Queensland.

Last month, former Kangaroos prop Jason Ryles was appointed as an assistant (forwards) coach replacing Justin Morgan who has moved to the Warriors.

Craig is in the twilight of his coaching career at Melbourne. He is contracted to the club until the end of next season but has indicated he could stay with the club he led to the 2012 premiership until the end of 2018.

After that Ryles and Aaron could emerge as successors to Craig as head coach.
