Ben Simmons top scored but his efforts were in vain as the Philadelphia 76ers crashed to the Portland Trail Blazers in a 129-95 NBA defeat.

In the absence of centre Joel Embiid, Simmons had 19 points in a 76sers side that was quick out of the blocks but mostly outplayed from the second term.

Embiid missed the road game because of a knee injury and the 76ers crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season in a 34-point loss.

As CJ McCollum scored 35 points in just 28 minutes, the Blazers led by 29 points at halftime and extended their margin to 39 points at one stage.

The Blazers were playing their fourth game in seven days on the second night of a back-to-back yet they never gave their fresher opponents a chance.

Simmons was aggressive, going to the rim when needed with seven out of 12 from the field.

His fellow Australian Jonah Bolden was given extended time on court in Embiid's absence.

Bolden played a season-high 26 minutes for eight points and eight rebounds.

The 76ers are back in action on Wednesday (AEDT) as they continue their five-game road trip against the Los Angeles Clippers.

In other games, the Los Angeles Lakers won for the first time in three games without an injured LeBron James, beating the Sacramento Kings 121-114.

Kawhi Leonard scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Toronto Raptors defeated the visiting Chicago Bulls 95-89.

Evan Fournier scored 13 points and made his second game-winning shot of the season to lift Orlando over visiting Detroit, 109-107.

Harrison Barnes turned a last-minute steal into a pair of free throws and Dennis Smith Jr. hit a go-ahead shot with 24.8 seconds remaining to rally host Dallas over Oklahoma City 105-103.

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat 113-104.
