Ben Stokes fails to lift Canterbury in NZ

Jesse Ryder's batting fireworks lifted Central Districts to a T20 win over a Canterbury side where England cricketer Ben Stokes had a quiet afternoon.

Jesse Ryder's big-hitting summer continued for Central Districts as they posted a high-scoring eight-run Twenty20 cricket win over Ben Stokes' Canterbury in Nelson.

Ryder's run spree was in stark contrast to Stokes' input.

Suspended England allrounder Stokes wasn't required at the bowling crease and scored 17 off just 10 balls early in the chase.

Former Black Caps international Ryder raced to 84 off 40 balls as his team posted 5-213 after choosing to bat at Saxton Oval.

Captain Will Young's 53 was the chief support for 33-year-old Ryder, who has scored three centuries and four half-centuries in 11 domestic innings this summer.

It proved too much, just, for the visitors who finished on 6-205.
