Coaches should no longer fear receiving the dreaded "full support of the board", according to Wayne Bennett.
But the Brisbane master mentor joked that even he would be nervous about his future if he was offered a new contract right now after the "crazy" rate of coach sackings this NRL season.
Bennett reckoned there was a new telltale sign that a coach was in trouble after South Sydney's Michael Maguire became the latest casualty.
"I am just worried if they give me an extension of my contract," the 40-year coaching veteran said.
"The last couple who just lost their jobs had their contracts extended.

"Maybe that's the new way in the game.
"It's not whether the board supports you, it's whether you get a new contract.
"If they come near me I will start to worry."
For the record Bennett is not off contract until 2019.
Ex-Bronco Anthony Seibold was on Thursday officially unveiled as the new Rabbitohs coach after Maguire was ditched with two years left on his contract.
"He played here for a number of years but I don't know much more about him," Bennett said.
The Brisbane coach also distanced himself from speculation over the new Gold Coast Titans coach after Queensland mentor Kevin Walters officially pulled out of the running.
"Leave me out of where the coaches are going, it's getting a bit crazy out there," Bennett said.
