Bernard Tomic's turbulent year

Bernard Tomic's Wimbledon antics are the latest in a series of bizarre and controversial acts on court and off over the past year.

BERNARD TOMIC'S YEAR OF TURMOIL

May 2016: Instead of raising the white flag, he holds his racquet the wrong way and barely moves as Fabio Fognini fires down an ace to complete a 6-2 6-4 over "Tomic the Tank Engine" at the Madrid Open.

May 2016: Placed on notice by Olympic team chief Kitty Chiller that such "appalling" on-court conduct was not befitting of an Australian Olympian before declaring his unavailability for the Rio Games citing a scheduling clash with a tournament in which he needed to defend his title-winning rankings points.

January 2017: Opts to boycott Australia's first-round Davis Cup tie against the Czech Republic amid talk of a Tomic family funding feud between his coach and father John and Tennis Australia.

January 2017: Splits with the Adelaide-based management company that also handles the affairs of Davis Cup captain and long-time mentor and ally Lleyton Hewitt.

March 2017: Pulls out of his first-round match in Acapulco citing "unbearable heat". It was 27 degrees.

April 2017: Breaks his silence on his Davis Cup exile and closes the door on a return this year, saying "it's not my priority right now" as he focuses on arresting his rankings slide.

May 2017: Suffers first-round French Open loss to Austrian star Dominic Thiem

June 2017: Universally condemned for confessing to being bored during his feeble first-round Wimbledon loss to Mischa Zverev and only playing for money not trophies.
