Beyonce offers uni scholarships for women

Beyonce has set up four scholarships at four US universities, for women in creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies.

Beyonce plans to offer scholarships for women in creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies at four US universities as part of one-year celebrations of her Grammy-winning album Lemonade.

The Formation Scholars awards, for the 2017-18 academic year, are "to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident," her website says.

One scholarship per school will be awarded at Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design, and Spelman College, to incoming, current or graduate students.

The scholarship at Spelman, a historically black women's college in Atlanta, will be a one-time award of $US25,000 dollars, according to the school's website.

Howard, a historically black university in Washington, said on Twitter that details on how to apply for the scholarship will be announced in the next 30 days.
