"The president is absolutely committed to keeping his promise that we will act," Biden said, six days after the horrific school shooting in Connecticut that killed 20 children and six adults.
"Even if (as) he says, we could only save one life, we have to take action," Biden said, as he met police chiefs from around America and cabinet officials including Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
"I want to hear your views, because for anything to get done, we're going to need your advocacy. We're going to need the advocacy of the law enforcement organizations in this country."
Obama announced the formation of the task force on Wednesday and said he wanted recommendations on issues like gun control, mental health care and violent culture by next month, to push in Congress.
