Bids to stop Allianz Stadium demo fails

A court challenge to stop the demolition of Sydney's Allianz Stadium has been dismissed after a judge ruled the NSW government had followed proper procedures.

A court bid to stop the demolition of Sydney's Allianz Stadium has been dismissed after a judge ruled the NSW government had followed proper planning procedures.

But the wrecking balls can't move in yet - with a court injunction in place until at least Thursday afternoon and an MP vowing to stand in the way of bulldozers after then.

Land and Environment Court Justice Nicola Pain on Wednesday dismissed separate court actions by community group Local Democracy Matters and Waverley Council to stop the state government knocking down the Moore Park stadium before the March 23 election.

She ruled the government had exhibited the demolition proposal for the required period of time and considered design excellence as required in its $730 million rebuild plan.

But Justice Pain didn't lift a temporary injunction restricting hard demolition work to allow both applicants time to consider an appeal.

They'll reconvene in the same court at 2pm on Thursday when the injunction may be lifted if leave to appeal isn't granted.

Greens MP David Shoebridge said he respected the court's decision but promised he and others would stand in the way of bulldozers at Moore Park if the demolition was given a green light.

"I can tell you now that if this premier thinks she can send in wrecking balls tomorrow afternoon it won't just be me standing there," he told reporters outside court on Wednesday.

"Many members of the community (will be) putting themselves between an arrogant premier and a billion dollars wasted of public money."

Opposition Leader Michael Daley said he respected the decision but wanted demolition works held off until the state election.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet welcomed the decision and said the Berejiklian government "will now focus on getting on with the job of delivering a world-class stadium for the people of NSW".
