Big Bash won't trump Tests: Hodge

Veteran batsman Brad Hodge says the Big Bash League could offer the summer's most competitive cricket.

The Big Bash League could be the summer's most competitive cricket, says stalwart Brad Hodge.

"It's probably going to be, unfortunately," Hodge told reporters in Adelaide on Wednesday.

But the 40-year-old, who has re-signed with the Adelaide Strikers, isn't worried about the Twenty20 tournament overshadowing what looms as a lopsided Test series between Australia and the West Indies.

"I don't think overshadowing. I think it complements it pretty well," he said.

"The competition, what Cricket Australia have done running it over the Christmas and New Year period, is very strong.

"There's a lot of following, the numbers are there from children to women to families. Everyone gets involved.

"It's a great tournament, a good spectacle and the players love it. So it's a pretty good recipe for success."

The West Indies will arrive with little expectation of challenging Australia in a Test series played at the same time as the BBL.

"Everyone I guess is screaming out for some competition," Hodge said.

"But Australia, we always play well on our home soil, we're a tough side to beat.

"Home ground advantage is important ... whenever any touring side comes here to play, it's tough, it's tough competition and we have got some pretty good players."
