Bikie killer feared for life: court

The opening of a NSW trial of three men accused of murdering a high-ranking bikie has heard the man who fired the fatal shots feared for his life.

A man who shot dead a senior Hells Angels bikie following a brief argument feared he was going to be killed, a court has heard.

Wade Basanovic, his father Michael and Brian Brown have been charged over the murder of bikie Zeljko Mitrovic at a trucking business in Wetherill Park in Sydney's southwest in January 2013.

During the opening of their trial at the NSW Supreme Court, Wade Basanovic's barrister Troy Edwards said his client had shot Mr Mitrovic after he told the three accused: "You're all f***ing dead."

"Shooting was the only option he had," Mr Edwards told the jury.

Wade Basanovic had taken a gun to the meeting where Mr Mitrovic was killed as he feared for his safety and was worried the high-ranking bikie had organised a hit on his father, he said.

"He believed that the deceased had arranged and participated in a brutal beating of his father," Mr Edwards said.

The crown has argued the three men, who they say were all former members of the Hells Angels city chapter, went to the transport business to recover a debt they believed was owed by Mr Mitrovic to another man.

Following a heated minute-long discussion, Wade Basanovic took a pistol from his pocket and shot Mr Mitrovic three times at close range, prosecutor Siobhan Herbert said.

Another employee of the transport company was also injured during the attack by a stray bullet.

Mr Edwards said his client had fired the shots after Mr Mitrovic threatened to kill him, his father, Mr Brown and the man to whom it was believed the debt was owed.

He called a member of the Hells Angels and said "send some boys", Mr Edwards told the jury.

The trial continues.
