Victoria's anti-bikie task force is investigating a Melbourne shooting caught on CCTV which left two men hospitalised.

Those behind the shooting remain at large after the Tuesday night attack in Attwood in Melbourne's northwest.

Two men aged 28 and 30 from Western Australia were treated by ambulance officers before being rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Both received gunshot wounds to the upper body and are now in a stable condition.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that Echo Taskforce - which targets outlaw bikie gangs - is investigating the shooting.

A search is being conducted at Lavery Place in Attwood, Victoria Police said.

CCTV footage obtained by the Nine Network shows a white Mercedes drive into the street before three men get out.

A shooter then appears and starts firing, causing the men to flee.

Police say four men were in the car.

Investigators believe two male assailants were last seen running towards Kenny Street.

Paramedics treated the 28-year-old man for gunshot wounds at the scene.

They were called 45 minutes later to treat the second man at a nearby bottle shop.

A woman who lives in Lavery Place said she ran out of her house after hearing half a dozen shots.

She treated one of the injured men.

"When I took the towel away, it didn't seem like a lot of blood but the shot went through and out the back," Cheryl told 3AW.

"It wasn't a rifle, it was more pop-pop, like a pistol."
