Four bikie gang members who allegedly executed gangland figure Pasquale Barbaro are behind bars two weeks after police vowed to clean up Sydney's gang warfare.
Senior Rebels bikie Abuzar Sultani, who faced court on Wednesday charged with murder, is alleged to have played a large part in gang activity over the past three years.
Sultani, 27, is facing charges dating back to 2013, which include directing criminal group activity, aggravated firearms possession, drug supply and conspiring in the murder of another man.
He was one of nine men arrested in a series of police raids relating to the death of Barbaro, who was shot on an Earlwood footpath on the evening of November 14.
Just days after Barbaro was gunned down Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione launched Strike Force Osprey to investigate eight organised crime killings on Sydney's streets in the past 17 months.
Thirteen search warrants were executed in Tuesday's police sting across Sydney, with a focus on Olympic Park.
Officers from Strike Force Osprey worked with officers from Strike Force Raptor, set up in November last year to investigate the activities of the Burwood Chapter of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
Four of the men arrested, including Sultani, were charged with Barbaro's murder.
Weeks before the mafia figure was slain, hitman Hamad Assaad, 29, was shot in Georges Hall.
In April, convicted killer Walid Ahmad, 40, was gunned down on the rooftop car park of Bankstown Central shopping centre.
His murder is believed to be in retaliation for the fatal shooting of Safwan Charbaji outside a Condell Park panel beater's several weeks earlier.
Sultani did not apply for bail in Newtown Local Court on Wednesday.
Murder co-accused Siar Munshizada, 28, Joshua Baines, 24, and Mirwais Danishyar, 23, also chose not to apply for bail on Wednesday.
All four men were formally refused bail and will remain in custody until their next court hearing on December 21 at Burwood Court, where they are expected to apply for release.
A fifth man arrested in the raids also faced court on Wednesday for participating in a criminal group.
The others will face court over the next two months.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Frank Mennilli says more arrests can be expected.
Police seized more than 40 mobile phones, 11 cars, a safe, cash and stolen NSW Police identification during Tuesday's raids with the items to be examined by specialist forensic accountants.
A cache of drugs and weapons were also found including 20 long arms, 23 handguns, ballistic vests and masks, silencers, a stun gun, a homemade pipe gun, ammunition and drugs.
