Hundreds of tax dodging bikies with millions in unpaid obligations are being hunted down by the federal government.

The Australian Taxation Office has issued notices to almost 200 outlaw motorcycle gang members for failing to pay.

Eleven had debts totalling nearly $4 million.

The crackdown is part of an ongoing operation led by Australian Federal Police to disrupt bikie gangs through their financial operations.

In 2015/16, the taskforce targeted 668 owing more than $13 million.

Just under $6 million in cash was recovered and 35 people were prosecuted for failing to lodge a tax return.

"We will ... use our full arsenal of capabilities to exploit every opportunity to target the highest risk (outlaw motorcycle gangs)," AFP Detective Superintendent Peter De Santo said on Wednesday.

The ATO said an unprecedented availability of data had increased its ability to uncover illegal activity.
