Two vehicles have crashed in Testers Hollow after one apparently tried to overtake Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's convoy.

SBS News reporter Omar Dabbagh was on board Mr Shorten’s media bus when the accident happened.

He said a car tried to overtake Mr Shorten’s convoy as it was pulling off to the side of the road and collided head-on with another car.
New South Wales Police today issued a statement saying police and emergency services attended Cessnock Road at Testers Hollow about 12.45pm after reports of the crash.

"The 33-year-old female driver of the Mitsubishi and her 2-year-old son were assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and were found to be uninjured," the statement said. "She was breath-tested at the scene with a negative result.

"The 21-year-old female driver of the Nissan was taken by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition with head injuries."
"Police from Central Hunter Local Area Command have established a crime scene while they investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash."

Mr Dabbagh said he understood Mr Shorten spent up to 30 minutes with the pair and eventually gave them a lift home.
