Billions to boost western Sydney roads

The NSW budget will include more than $2.6 billion over four years to improve roads in western and south western Sydney.

Western Sydney roads are set to get a facelift in the upcoming NSW budget with more than $2.6 billion set aside for road projects over the next four years.

The multibillion-dollar funding will be spent on road upgrades in western and southwestern Sydney with more than $780 million to be spent in 2018-19, the NSW government said on Saturday.

Henry Lawson Drive will get a $100 million facelift, with construction works also planned for Bringelly Road, the Northern Road, Campbelltown Road and the M4 motorway.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says the funding will make one of the city's most important arterial roads - Henry Lawson Drive - flow freely again.

The first stage of construction will involve widening Henry Lawson Drive from two lanes to four for 2.2kms between Milperra Road and the M5 motorway.

"These projects will improve traffic flow and road safety and boost productivity across western Sydney, which is great for people who live in this booming part of our great city," Mr Perrottet said in a statement on Saturday.

NSW Roads Minister Melinda Pavey says the Henry Lawson Drive upgrade will expand traffic capacity, travel times and safety for road users.

The state budget will be handed down on June 19.
