Carson Daly has been tapped to co-host Tuesday's broadcast of the 9am hour of NBC's "Today" program, suggesting anchor Billy Bush's suspension is likely to continue for some time as the flagship network works out how to handle the Trump video controversy.
Two people familiar with the situation say Daly is expected to fill in on the program as NBCUniversal grapples with how to deal with the fallout that's engulfed the flagship network and it's anchor Bush.
NBC News announced in its Monday broadcast of "Today" that Bush had been suspended from the program pending a review following remarks he made while talking to Donald Trump during a 2005 "Access Hollywood" outtake that recently surfaced showing Bush and the now-Republican presidential candidate discussing sexual harassment of women in extremely lewd terms.
Bush's ultimate fate remains to be determined, according to people familiar with the network.
Various scenarios are being considered, these people said. NBC bet heavily on the former "Access Hollywood" anchor, enlisting him in an effort to revamp the 9am broadcast and make it more directly competitive with the breezier syndicated ABC program "Live".
