Embattled Queensland MP Billy Gordon has been released from a Cairns hospital after suffering a mild heart attack.
The independent member for Cook, who was forced out of the Labor party last year for failing to disclose his criminal history, had surgery on Saturday after experiencing tightness in his chest and difficulty breathing the day before.
A hospital spokesman told AAP Mr Gordon, who has absented himself from this week's parliamentary sittings, was released on Tuesday afternoon.
Staff at his Mareeba office said he would still take a few days' rest before returning to work.
Mr Gordon's absence from the chamber on Tuesday did not prove as awkward as it could have been for the minority government, who still depend on his vote.
