Bird out to prove point as Broncos centre

Jack Bird says he is finally over his Brisbane injury jinx and will be out to prove a point at left centre in the 2019 NRL season.

Jack Bird says he will be out to prove a point at left centre for Brisbane this NRL season after getting welcome clarity on his position from new coach Anthony Seibold.

Bird, 23, is back to full fitness after an injury-ravaged 2018 debut Broncos season that limited him to just eight games.

But the ex-NSW star says former South Sydney mentor Seibold's off-season arrival at Red Hill has provided something much more important - a clear mind.

After becoming frustrated rotating between the centres and halves in his limited time on the field for Brisbane last year, Bird relished being given a clear role by Seibold for 2019.

"Ever since I was young I have always been shopping around in positions, I was playing back-row, centre, fullback, five-eighth," he said.

"To have the clarity is something that you need coming into an NRL competition.

"To be honest I haven't played a lot of footy in the past year so I wouldn't know what my best position is for this team so the clarity is good - I know where I will be playing."

Bird won an NRL premiership with Cronulla at right centre but knew that position would never be up for grabs at Brisbane due to the presence of NSW X-factor James Roberts.

"When he (Seibold) arrived we had a little talk. He sat me down and said he wanted me to play left centre because of Jimmy on the right and I was happy with that," he said.

"I always played right (side of the field). Ever since I was young I always knew how to pass left to right, a bit better than right to left.

"But I have been practising that (right to left passing) and I feel good.

"I am happy to play at left centre if that is best for the team."

Bird arrived at the Broncos in 2018 amid much fanfare on a four-year deal reportedly worth almost $4 million.

But he failed to deliver bang for Brisbane's buck due to shoulder and sternum injuries.

Bird admitted he endured some dark times on the sidelines last year but was now ready to be a shining light for Brisbane.

"Last year was one to forget but it makes me stronger," Bird said.

"I have had injuries before ... but last year was pretty tough for myself both mentally and physically.

"But I have overcome that. I am confident I can prove to everyone that I can get back to the footy I know I am capable of playing."
